The New norm...hopefully, some stormwater capture methods.

Here are some tips to capture stormwater. Remember captured stormwater is stricly for non potable use.

1) Rainbarrels!

Or underground cisterns, pictured above

2) Green Roofs and Green Infrastructure

Pictured above low impact development that allow the capture and filtration of water as close to where it falls.

3) Spreading Grounds

Spreading grounds permit water to percolate into groundwater basins for later pumping.

4) Get creative!

Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center at Hyperion

So recently I took a trip to the Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center at Hyperion. The Learning Center  is public environmental education center next to Hyperion Treatment PlantTours are lead by a docent and focus on wastewater and trash collection and disposal. The Learning Center exhibits are very interactive.  Below I have pictures of the water component of the Learning Center.

Califonia's fresh water source, storage, and distribution.

An ideal house where stormwater is collected from the roof, with two rain barrels to collect stormwater and feed into a rain garden.

How trash and debris are separated from stormwater how it is stored underground in basins.

Outside of the Learning Center is this model wetland and how stormwater runoff is a benefit to wetlands and wildlife habitats.
